The opening scene in RotTR is fantastic set in Tibet where you get to feel just how dangerous Lara's treks are and the environment around you. It's disappointing, but entertaining nonetheless. It's the typical generic mercenary bad guy plot which I found uninteresting as Lara's character development was the center of the story in the last game. The story is a little predictable and cheesy. A mercenary group called Trinity wants this source so it's Lara's job to go and retrieve it before anyone gets their hands on it. It's something that her father obsessed on and ultimately got him killed. There's an item called the Divine Source that grants people immortality. The game doesn't focus so much on Lara's survival to get back home but more on her treasure hunting.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is more of what we got before and not much else but that's not a bad thing. What could Crystal Dynamics do to top this you ask? It's pretty hard to top that and they didn't quite top it this time around. It took the game industry by storm with its cinematic gameplay, fantastic visuals, huge open world, and realism. Many people have compared endurance mode to the game Don't Starve.Tomb Raider (2012) was a revolutionary game for the franchise and genre as a whole.The map is filled with enemies such as predatory animals and Trinity soldiers, who become even more deadly as the days pass, to the point where the getting food will mean the player has to fight wolves or a bear. According to Crystal Dynamics, the size of the map is made up of 100 hexagonal segments, with 60 foot sides to each hexagon. The map is a procedural generated forest filled with tombs caves and other locations to be scavenged for relics. Players will always play as Lara, though they will see player two as Nadia on their screen.
Players will not die instantly unless they fall into a trap, giving teamates a chance to revive them.
On October 11th, Crystal Dynamics will release a new co-op mode to Endurance Mode. The player must survive the wilderness of Siberia by maintaining body heat and hunting for food to avoid starving, all while searching ruins and crypts to search for Relics.Įnemies will become more dangerous and food will become more scarce as the days go on, to the point where rabbits and squirrels will be absent and only wolves and bears will be present to eat.
